Description

First edition of this Pulitzer Prize-winning play about small-town life.

  • Thornton Wilder (American).
  • New York: Coward McCann, Inc., [1938].
  • 128 pages.
  • Bound in original olive cloth, title labels printed in blue and white tipped onto front board and spine, and in original unclipped ($2.00) pictorial dust jacket printed in blue and brown, pictorial endpapers of the New Hampshire village Grover’s Corners, top edge stained blue, title page printed in blue and black.

The famous play speaks to the everyday experiences of people living in a small community. The universal theme and minimalist scenery – directions are given for “No curtain. No scenery.” – have made it a perennial favorite in school and community theaters. The first performance of this play occurred in New Jersey, in the same year of this publication.
