Description

First edition of the last of Virginia Woolf's novels published in her lifetime, glimpses into the lives of a single family over a span of fifty years.

  • Virginia Woolf (English).
  • London: The Hogarth Press, 1937.
  • [4], 469, [1] pages.
  • Original unclipped (8s 6d.) pictorial dust jacket designed by Vanessa Bell.
  • Printed in brown and black.
  • Bound in original full green cloth, spine lettered in gilt.
  • Housed in custom tan cloth clamshell box.

While Woolf originally conceived the book as a mix of essay and novel that would serve as a "sequel" to A Room of One's Own, she eventually separated the two genres, expanding the essay into Three Guineas and the novel into The Years. The conflicts and resolutions of the Partiger family are revealed through isolated scenes of everyday life, beginning in 1880 and continuing until the present day.
