Description
Signed first printing of this monograph from the influential Japanese photographer.
Beautiful production printed to accompany the exhibition held in 1999 at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Moriyama is one of the premier postwar Japanese photographers; he was awarded the Infinity Award for Lifetime Achievement from the International Center of Photography in New York in 2004, and his high-contrast, low-tech street photos are almost instantly recognizable. This volume remains an important introduction to this work. With essays by Sandra S. Phillips, Alexandra Munroe, and Moriyama.
"The city has everything: comedy, tragedy, eulogy, eroticism [...] It is the ideal setting, the place where people's desires are interwoven. It has remained and will always remain my natural element." — Daido Moriyama
