This Huanghuali table epitomizes the minimalist aesthetic of "less is more" in ancient Chinese literati culture. It features clean, straight lines and a squared silhouette, with the elegantly curved "knife-blade" spandrels showcasing a flowing, cloud-like wood grain and a warm, lustrous hue. Eschewing elaborate carving, it relies entirely on precise proportions, the refined quality of the wood, and a scientifically engineered structure to convey its character.

As noted by the late scholar Wang Shixiang, its structural principles are derived from the traditional post-and-beam system of Chinese wooden architecture. The table's sturdiness comes from its "framed-panel tenon" joints, where the top of each leg is notched to tightly encase the spandrels and apron, forming a stable triangular load-bearing structure. This design evenly distributes the weight of the tabletop to all four legs, combining durability with visual elegance. The legs splay slightly outward, a feature known as "sì tuǐ bā zhā" (four legs, eight splayed directions), which enhances the table's stability and creates a visually restrained yet imposing presence, much like the columns in traditional architecture that convey a sense of solemnity and balance. The spandrels are left entirely plain, with their graceful arcs unadorned, embodying the Ming literati ideal of "craftsmanship that highlights the inherent beauty of the material."
