On December 2, 2020, in a Champions League victory over Dynamo Kyiv, Cristiano Ronaldo stepped onto the pitch as a 35-year-old and did what he had always done: he scored. A tap-in at the far post in the 57th minute in the second half, unremarkable in its execution but monumental in its meaning. It was the 750th goal of his professional career, a number so staggering that at the time only Pelé, Messi, and Romario had ever surpassed it. This jersey was worn by Ronaldo in the 1st half of that game on December 2, 2020, in Juventus' 3-0 win over Dynamo Kyiv.

Ronaldo marked the occasion on Instagram, writing that each goal represented "750 happy moments, 750 smiles on the faces of our fans. Thanks to all the players and coaches who have helped me reach this incredible number, thanks to all my loyal opponents who have made me work harder and harder every day." It was a characteristically Ronaldo moment. Grateful, driven, and already thinking about what came next.

The Road to 750

Ronaldo began his career at Sporting Lisbon, scoring on his league debut in 2002 before moving to Manchester United the following summer. At Old Trafford he announced himself to the world, spending six years winning three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, two League Cups, a FIFA Club World Cup, and the Champions League in 2008, a season in which he scored 42 goals in all competitions. He left Manchester having scored 118 goals and claimed the first of his five Ballon d'Or awards, already established as one of the most electric players the game had ever seen.

In 2009, Ronaldo joined Real Madrid for a then world-record fee and proceeded to redefine what was possible for a footballer. Over nine seasons he became the club's all-time leading scorer with 450 goals in all competitions, an average of more than a goal per game. He won four Champions League titles, two La Liga titles, and collected individual record after individual record. His tally of 17 goals in a single Champions League season remains a record to this day, and his 140 goals in the competition overall make him its all-time leading scorer by a distance.

After joining Juventus in 2018, Ronaldo continued to add to his legend. He won back-to-back Serie A titles and became the first player in history to win the Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A, a feat that speaks to his ability to dominate wherever he went. In his first season alone he won the Serie A MVP, Best Forward, and Footballer of the Year awards, making 43 appearances and scoring 28 goals.

On the international stage, Ronaldo's record is equally without parallel. He debuted for Portugal as a 17-year-old in 2003 and went on to become both the most capped player and the all-time leading scorer in the history of international football. He led Portugal to victory at Euro 2016, providing leadership from the sidelines after suffering an injury in the final, and added the UEFA Nations League title in 2019. Along the way he won five Ballon d'Or awards and seven UEFA Champions League scoring titles.

The Record

By the time his career reached its peak, Ronaldo had surpassed 973 professional goals, a number no player in the history of the sport has ever matched. The 750th, scored on a December night in Turin against a Ukrainian side, was not the finish line. It was simply a waypoint on a journey that had no real equivalent in the history of the game, and this jersey is an artifact from one of its most significant chapters.
