Roy Andersen’s career in commercial illustration and lifelong interest in Native American subject matter led to his election into the Cowboy Artists of America in 1989. In 1990 he won the Gold Medal for Oil award at the 25th annual CAA Exhibition for his work We Hunt Them and in 1991, he received the Silver Medal for Oil for The Silent Blanket. His body of work focuses on Crow, Cheyenne, and Apache indigenous groups. To project the strength and spirit of who he paints, Andersen often rendered figures as central to his composition.
