Born in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico, Alfredo Rodriguez, one of nine children, grew up using his watercolor set from his mother to paint portraits of his family members. Rodriguez visited Native Reservations in Mexico and watched numerous American Western movies, developing a deep interest in the 19th century American West. He moved to California in 1975 at the young age of 21 and continues to travel to Native Reservations to gather inspiration for his work.
