This jersey was worn by Oscar Robertson during the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy, where Team USA won the gold medal. Led by head coach Pete Newell, the United States went 8-0 through the tournament, winning by an average margin of 42 points per contest. Robertson co-captained the squad and led the team in scoring alongside Jerry Lucas, with each averaging 17.0 points per game. The United States clinched the gold medal with a 90-63 victory over Brazil men's national basketball team in the championship game, with Robertson scoring 20 points. Widely regarded as one of the greatest amateur basketball teams ever assembled, the 1960 roster featured ten future NBA players, including four consecutive NBA Rookie of the Year honorees and five future members of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players list.

Following his Olympic triumph, Robertson entered the NBA with the Cincinnati Royals in 1960, winning NBA Rookie of the Year honors after averaging 30.5 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 9.7 assists per game. In 1961-62, he became the first player in NBA history to average a triple-double over an entire season, posting 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 11.4 assists per game. Robertson remained the only player to accomplish the feat for more than five decades until Russell Westbrook matched it during the 2016-17 season. Robertson captured the NBA Most Valuable Player Award in 1963-64 and won an NBA championship with the Milwaukee Bucks in 1971. Over his 14-year NBA career, he was selected to 12 NBA All-Star Games and earned 11 All-NBA honors. Robertson was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980 and was named one of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players in 1996.
