Sotheby’s is proud to offer Bob Cousy’s 1957 NBA Championship Ring, awarded following the Boston Celtics’ historic first NBA title and marking the beginning of one of the greatest dynasties in professional sports.

The 1956–57 season stands as a watershed moment in basketball history. Led by Bob Cousy, Bill Russell, and Tom Heinsohn, the Boston Celtics captured the franchise’s first NBA championship, defeating the St. Louis Hawks in a dramatic seven-game Finals series. The decisive Game 7, played at Boston Garden on April 13, 1957, remains one of the most celebrated contests in league history, with the Celtics prevailing 125–123 in double overtime.

At the center of the championship run was Bob Cousy, whose electrifying style of play revolutionized the point guard position. The NBA’s Most Valuable Player that season, Cousy led the league in assists while serving as the creative engine of a Celtics team that would redefine excellence for generations. The 1957 title was the first of six championships Cousy would win during his Hall of Fame career and the first of an unprecedented eight consecutive championships for the Celtics franchise.
