AN ARCHIVE OF IMAGES FROM THE GEMINI PROGRAM, INCLUDING THE FIRST AMERICAN SPACEWALKS, ORIGINALLY FROM THE COLLECTION OF "THE MAN WHO PUT MEN ON THE MOON."

Gemini laid the groundwork for Apollo by testing whether intravehicular and extravehicular activity was possible in space. The forty images between the two binders in this lot demonstrate the first American spacewalks and spacecraft docking logistics on the way to reaching the lofty goal of boots on the Moon.

Hailed as “The Man who put Men on the Moon” and the “Father of the Manned Spacecraft Program,” Dr. George Mueller played a pivotal role at NASA from 1963-1969.Mueller was sworn in in 1963, right as the Gemini flight operations were gearing up. Regarded as a bridge between the Mercury and Apollo missions, the Gemini program featured the launch of twelve flight crews under Mueller’s tenure. Gemini IV featured the first American spacewalk, conducted by Ed White on June 3, 1965. White remained outside the spacecraft for 21 minutes during the third revolution of the Gemini IV mission.  The famous images of him floating in space were taken by Commander Jim McDivitt. This lot also features beautiful photographs taken of Earth on that mission, as well as several launch, operations, and recovery photos of Gemini Missions V, VI, VII, IX, X, XI, and XII.
