Description
[Apollo 11]
Tranquility Base
Large color photograph, 16 x 20 inches, SIGNED by Lunar Module Pilot BUZZ ALDRIN with lengthy inscription in SILVER ink: “‘I’VE NOTICED SEVERAL TIMES IN GOING FROM THE/ SUNLIGHT INTO THE SHADOW, I CATCH AN ADDITIONAL/ REFLECTION ON THE LUNAR MODULE’ / BUZZ ALDRIN / LMP APOLLO XI / 20 JULY 1969.”
The classic "Visor Shot" representing one of the greatest achievements in human history. This iconic image of Buzz Aldrin was taken by Neil Armstrong, whose reflection is visible in the visor of Aldrin's spacesuit. Aldrin's lengthy inscription refers to the reflections he noticed as Armstrong and himself made their historic moonwalk at Tranquility Base:
"110:21:24 Aldrin: 'I've noticed several times in going from the sunlight into the shadow, that just as I go in, I catch an additional reflection off the LM that, along with the reflection off my face onto the visor, makes visibility very poor just at the transition [...] sunlight into the shadow. I essentially have so much glare coming onto my visor [...] shadow until [...] helmet actually gets in the shadow. Then it takes a short while for my eyes to adapt to the different lighting conditions.'"
