Held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia on 13 July 1985, Live Aid was a dual-venue benefit concert that raised over $150 million for Ethiopian famine relief. Broadcast live via satellite so viewers at home could tune in, the groundbreaking event united over 70 iconic musical acts around one of the most urgent humanitarian crises of the late twentieth century.
The U.K. performance featured Queen, David Bowie, Elton John, and Paul McCartney, among other notable artists. The U.S. performance—for which this program was produced—featured a similarly star-studded lineup, including Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Madonna, and the Beach Boys.
