Lot Details

Description

This burgundy red Fender Telecaster, serial #S835696, was owned and played by Queen’s lead vocalist and songwriter Freddie Mercury. Guitar shows wear from moderate use.

Mercury gave the present guitar to his close friend Paul Prenter. Letter from Paul Prenter states: “He [Freddie Mercury] had it at home and played it but said that I should have it.”

Dimensions

Guitar: 38 ½ x 12 ½ x 1 ⅞ in.

Case: 40 ½ x 18 ½ x 5 in.

Offered with case and letter from Paul Prenter.

Queen’s signature style combined heavy metal and glam rock, and Mercury’s layered vocal harmonies were a counterpoint to Brian May’s lyrical guitar playing and exquisite solos. Freddie Mercury typically played guitar onstage when Queen performed their hit “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” He played acoustic guitars and also played a Fender Telecaster similar to this guitar.
