Throughout the 1960s, Eric Clapton largely played Gibson guitars including the Les Paul, ES-335, and Firebird. Beginning in 1969, Clapton switched to mostly playing Fender Stratocasters—making the model an enduring part of his sound and legacy. The Strat is still his preferred model to this day.
