Description
14 x 21 ½ in. Original brown-paper concert poster by the Murray Poster Print Co. for Bob Dylan’s acoustic performance at New York City's Philharmonic Hall. In excellent condition, with slightly bumped corners and small stain at upper left.
Poster is originally from the collection of Charlie Rothschild, a music manager who met Dylan at Gerde’s Folk City in September 1961. He went on to work for Dylan’s manager Albert Grossman and became a touring manager for Bob Dylan and Peter, Paul and Mary.
This poster advertises Bob Dylan’s "Only New York Concert Appearance" on 31 October 1964—both Saturday night and Halloween. Dylan was in a great mood and was particularly funny that evening, even joking from the stage, “It's Halloween and I've got my Bob Dylan mask on." The audience was enraptured.
It was an especially memorable performance—regarded as one of if not the best acoustic shows of Dylan’s career. Joan Baez came on stage and joined him for several songs.
Dylan performed the yet to be released "Mr. Tambourine Man.” Other songs performed include "The Times They Are A-Changin'," "It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)," "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall," "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right," "It Ain't Me Babe," and "All I Really Want to Do." Columbia Records released the concert as part of The Bootleg Series.
