The monumental marble krater in Pentelic marble, generally dated to the late 1st century BC and known as the Medici Vase, was discovered in Rome in the 1570s. It entered the Medici collections in Rome, notably at the Villa Medici, before being transferred by Ferdinando to his villa on the Pincian Hill. In 1780, the ancient marble was brought to Florence, together with part of the Medici’s Roman collections, where it is now preserved in the Galleria degli Uffizi (inv. 1914, no. 307).
