The present work is a bozzetto for Diano's altarpiece for the church of Pietà dei Turchini, Naples. A second version of the altarpiece is found in the church of Santa Maria in Portico di Campitelli, Rome, and a larger bozzetto is in the Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin, Ohio.1
