Nelson is coming out of South Florida, where he played his senior season after three years at Arkansas State. He averaged 15.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game across 37 games on 56%/14.%/73% shooting splits, becoming the first player in American Conference history to win Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Newcomer of the Year in the same season. He helped lead USF to a conference regular-season and tournament title and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2012, recording 18 double-doubles and becoming the only NCAA player on record with 80 dunks, a 3.0 steal percentage, and a 5.0 block percentage in a single season. 

One of just three players outside of power conferences invited to the combine, Nelson projects as a high-energy second-round specialty big who wins on motor, rim protection, lob-catching, and second-chance scoring.
