THE LARGEST SLICE OF A STRIKING METEORITE WITH OSCAR MONNIG PROVENANCE
The Travis County (a) meteorite was discovered in the Austin, Texas area in the late 19th century. Many of the meteorites from this find feature a uniformly shock-darkened interior, produced when the asteroid from which this meteorite originated was impacted at high velocity by another celestial body, causing the metals and minerals in the asteroid to melt, darken, and distribute throughout the asteroid. In addition, Travis County (a) has "armored" chondrules running throughout the interior, providing a shimmering, visual contrast to the dark black interior.
This is the largest slice from the Travis County (a) meteorites, with a gorgeous fusion crust around the exterior and Oscar Monnig collection provenance.
