Bojiyare — A Massive Stony Meteorite With Two-Tone Coloration
Chondrite – L5
Bojiyare, Wajir County, Kenya (1° 27' 16"N, 39° 54' 22"E)
495 x 381 x 337 mm (19½ x 15 x 13¼ inches). 75 kilograms (165.3 lb).
A MASSIVE STONY METEORITE WITH TWO-TONE COLORATION
The sizeable Bojiyare boulder offered here is the main mass of this relatively newly found Kenyan meteorite. It has a gorgeous two-tone colored exterior, with a deep brown, weathered fusion crust on the top half, and a vibrant orange-red caliche on the bottom half. In addition, the specimen has incredible regmaglypts (or, "thumbprints") all over, the result of surface melting during the meteorite's descent through the atmosphere.
Given its size, coloration, aesthetics, and its status as the main mass of this find, this is a highly desirable chondrite that could be the centerpiece of any meteorite collection.
