Sotheby’s Modern Discoveries Auction presents an exceptional selection of paintings, drawings, and sculpture spanning more than a century, bringing together works from across Europe and the Americas. The sale celebrates the most significant and innovative avant-garde movements of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, highlighting artists who redefined artistic practice and challenged established conventions. Distinguished by rare and important drawings by Marc Chagall and Joan Miró, luminous canvases by Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Maurice Utrillo and expressive sculptures by Auguste Rodin and Henry Moore, the auction offers a compelling exploration of artistic experimentation. Collectively, these works exemplify the bold, inventive spirit with which artists forged new visual languages and helped shape the trajectory of modern art.
This February, Sotheby’s will host the pre-sale exhibition for the auction at the Breuer on Madison Avenue, an iconic Brutalist landmark enmeshed in the cultural fabric of New York City.
