Edinburgh, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Generation: 25 Years of Contemporary Art in Scotland, 2014

Shift was made in 2000 and was one of four 'white' paintings (Sabine, Rivière, Rosebud and Shift) which formed the core of the artist's exhibition of the same name at The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in 2000. Two of the 'white' paintings from this group of four are now in public collections. Sabine is part of the permanent collection of The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and Rivière is now part of the permanent collection of Aberdeen Art Gallery. Watt has long admired the portraits of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and the four paintings, although emptied of explicit figurative content,  are directly influenced by the portraits he made of the Rivière Family which hang in The Louvre.
