Sotheby’s is delighted to offer a pièce unique model of the ultra-rare Bugatti Factor ONE – Number 1 of 250 - a bicycle that pays homage to more than a century of Bugatti engineering excellence.

With a production run limited to just 250 individually numbered examples worldwide, the example offered here is especially significant as Number 1 of 250.

Beyond its position as the very first bicycle in this ultra-exclusive series, the frame will be custom-sized to fit the winning bidder, the Factor design team will work with you to create a bespoke colour scheme.

The Background

“This is not just another bike and car paint-job collab. That absolutely has to be understood before moving forward.” Rob Gitelis, Founder of Factor Bikes.

Gitelis identified Bugatti as the one automotive marque he would personally choose to own, so he reached out to Bugatti to explore a collaboration and the rest, as they say, is history.

From the outset, both companies agreed that the project would extend far beyond a simple paint scheme; it would require meaningful technical innovation worthy of carrying the Bugatti and Factor names.

The Result

Rather than simply rebranding the existing Factor ONE bike, the engineers used the collaboration as an opportunity to explore what could be achieved beyond the constraints of professional bike racing regulations, resulting in this incredible UCI-illegal machine.

“I said let’s do something special around the fork of the bike to make it even faster than the current Factor ONE, and the only way to do that was to go even wider.”

Wider they went and the result is a dramatically wide 147mm front fork faring —substantially broader than the 115mm UCI limit – that gives lower drag and greater high-speed stability.

This obsessive attention to detail and performance is evident throughout.

The carbon lay-up of the bike is inspired by the exposed carbon fibre construction of Bugatti’s Veyron and Chiron models -

“We’ve gone to a 3K twill weave on the outer-most layer because we wanted to match the same carbon fibre work that Bugatti does on their cars,” explains Gitelis.

And it doesn’t stop there. Numerous best-in-class components were painstakingly developed exclusively for this bike:

-           Bespoke Black Inc Bugatti Hyper 62mm carbon wheels, weighing just 1298g for the pair

-           Bugatti-branded Continental Grand Prix 5000 TT tyres, uniquely finished with Bugatti’s signature French Racing Blue, dating back to the 1920s

-           Bugatti-branded Italian-made Carbon-Ti chainrings with Titanium Grade 5 teeth

-           Bugatti-branded Italian-made Carbon-Ti carbon brake rotors with steel braking track

-           German-made SRM Origin PM9 powermeter paired with THM carbon cranks

-           Bugatti-branded Selle Italia saddle with an Alcantara seat cover to match the material used on Bugatti steering wheels

-           The world’s lowest-friction bearings in the bottom bracket, wheels and award-winning OSPW rear derailleur courtesy of Denmark’s CeramicSpeed

-           Custom Bugatti-branded bartape
