The chronograph is perhaps one of history's most significant complications. Though it may first seem like just a humble stopwatch, the importance of having the ability to accurately time any event on demand cannot be understated, especially before the invention of portable electronics.

Throughout the decades, different scales have been applied to the periphery of the dial, allowing the central chronograph seconds hand to directly time events without further conversion. For example, a collector's favourite is the pulsations scale, originally made for doctors and can be read by activating the chronograph and measuring how long it takes for the patient to reach the calibrated amount of heartbeats.

In 2014, Patek Philippe celebrated their 175th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the storied Geneva maison released the limited edition reference 5975 as an homage to the chronograph wristwatch. The dial was proudly adorned with every major chronograph scale that has been used throughout the brand's history, including pulsations, telemeter, tachymeter and standard seconds. The present reference 5975 stands as a fitting and elegant commemoration of the world's most prestigious manufacturer of chronographs' momentous anniversary.
