註：黃永玉自幼喜好雕塑，曾於〈關於我的雕塑〉中自述「我小時候有個難堪的名字，叫做『黃逃學』。逃學出名的原因雖並非全因為站在那些作坊門口看師傅們雕菩薩，只是我對這些工作醉心地心領神會，卻信心百倍，終身得益」，更稱「一輩子想的就是搞雕塑」，又因對動物主題的特別偏愛，遂以生肖為題創作，此件即乙酉年所製。
