The Cloche de Cartier Ref. WGCC004 is a modern revival of one of Cartier’s most distinctive historical designs, originally introduced in the 1920s. Named after the French word for “bell,” the Cloche is defined by its asymmetrical bell-shaped case, which originated from a brooch watch. The 2021 Cartier Privé re-edition remains faithful to the original edition, featuring a platinum case, a silvered dial with Cartier's signature Roman numerals, and a limited production of just 100 pieces. Its unusual dial orientation reflects the design of the early Cloche, with the XII numeral positioned toward the crown.
More than a stylistic curiosity, the Cloche’s shape serves a practical purpose: the watch can rest upright on a flat surface and function as a miniature desk clock. This blend of form and function exemplifies Cartier’s long-standing tradition of creating highly imaginative shaped watches. Powered by the manually wound 1917 MC calibre, the Ref. WGCC0004 combines contemporary watchmaking with one of Cartier’s most iconic and unconventional designs.
