Released at Baselworld 2019, the Patek Philippe Calatrava reference 5212A introduced an entirely new complication to the manufacture: a weekly calendar, presented here for the first time in a serially produced wristwatch. An immediate success upon its debut, the model perfectly embodies Patek Philippe’s “Generations” campaign, most notably through its distinctive typography, which is inspired by the natural yet refined flow of handwritten script. In a deliberate departure from convention, the dial spells out the full names of the days and months, eschewing abbreviations and symmetry in favor of a more organic and expressive layout.
The watch is housed in an elegant 40 mm stainless steel case with gently flared, fluted lugs, a subtle homage to the rare, piece-unique reference 2512 from the 1950s. Its opaline silvered dial features a well-balanced display, with outer tracks indicating the day and week via two centrally mounted hands tipped in red. Powering the reference is the self-winding caliber 26-330 S C J SE, developed specifically for this model and equipped with a stop-seconds function, as well as a reduction wheel with an integrated clutch.
Still among the most sought-after references at boutiques today, the present example, coming directly from the family of the original owner, offers collectors the opportunity to acquire a complete set in overall very good condition.
