In 1985, Patek Philippe marked the beginning of a new era of grand complications with the introduction of the Ref. 3940, the first highly complicated watch produced in regular production. This ultra-thin perpetual calendar went on to become one of the manufacture’s most celebrated complicated timepieces.

In 2006, Patek Philippe introduced a modern interpretation of this iconic design with its successor, the Ref. 5930. The case diameter was subtly increased from 36 mm to 37.2 mm, while the layout of the subsidiary dials remained largely unchanged. Minor refinements were made, including a slightly enlarged calendar display at 6 o’clock, enhancing legibility while preserving the model’s classic aesthetic.

Initially offered exclusively in white gold, the model was joined by a yellow gold version in 2007. It was not until 2010 that the reference was produced in platinum and pink gold. In 2014, further variations were introduced, including a platinum model with a galvanized black dial and diamond hour markers, as well as a pink gold version featuring a silver opaline dial, maintaining a traditional appearance reminiscent of the 3940R.

Now discontinued, the present watch represents an exceptional opportunity to acquire a model that stands out on its own merits while inheriting the legacy of its celebrated predecessor. Preserved in very good condition and further enhanced by its double-signed Tiffany & Co. dial, it is offered with a winding box, accompanying booklets, and its Certificate of Origin.
