The Rolex Reference 18238 was introduced in 1988 and is a more contemporary reinterpretation of the classic Rolex Day-Date first introduced in 1956. In production until 2000, the 18238 is distinguished by its double quick-set day-date function thanks to the caliber 3155, and it's kaleidoscope of dial variations including hardstone, lacquer, and mother-of-pearl. The present lot features an exquisite black tapestry dial in fantastic condition.
This watch was given to legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus on August 2, 1992 at the annual Van Patrick Memorial Invitational. In honor of the charitable tournament, the watch was then auctioned off and won by the consignor’s family. Nicklaus won 177 professional tournaments in his career, but is also known for his close relationship with Rolex – and was often seen wearing a Day-Date. The watch is an opportunity to own a phenomenal timepiece with ties to a golfing legend.
