The Octa Réserve de Marche was the first automatic movement developed and produced by François-Paul Journe. It was conceived with the ambitious goal of creating a base caliber capable of accommodating a wide range of complications without increasing its thickness or diameter by even a fraction of a millimeter. As a result, all movements within the Octa line share identical dimensions, regardless of their functional complexity, an impressive technical achievement in modern horology.
Introduced in 2001, the Octa Réserve de Marche is estimated to have been produced in fewer than 600 examples featuring brass movements, before the manufacture transitioned to rose gold movements. The present example is believed to be among the earliest pieces released, distinguished by the presence of straight-line Côtes de Genève on the movement. This finishing style appears to have been exclusive to the very first batch of watches produced in 2001.
While the exact number of straight-line finished movements remains unconfirmed, it is estimated that fewer than 110 such calibers were produced and cased, underscoring the rarity of these early examples.
Although few changes are observed in the dial design throughout the brass movement period, early dials are known to exhibit a more pronounced shimmer and textured appearance compared to later iterations. The asymmetrical layout enhances the visual appeal of the model, which is presented here in a sophisticated pink gold case, a metal regarded as one of the rarer configurations of the series.
The present example is offered in very good overall condition, showing only light, superficial wear. It is accompanied by its original presentation box, warranty card, and two additional pairs of straps.
