Launched in the early 2000s, the Portugieser Tourbillon Mystère Squelette was a limited-edition version of IWC’s positively iconic nautical-inspired model, the Portugieser, in platinum, pink, white, and yellow gold, with 50 made in each metal. The present model, in its impressive 44mm platinum case, is number 8 out of 50 made in this material.
Its movement, cal. 50910 is skeletonised and boasts a floating one-minute tourbillon at 12 o’clock, with small seconds and a seven-day power-reserve display at 9 o’clock. The movement is hand-engraved and finished throughout, a techique usually reserved by IWC for select editions and commemorations. The engraving of the gold rotor can additionally be appreciated through the sapphire caseback. Highly rich in detail, the technical ingenuity of the engraving makes it a highly original movement for IWC and brings additional appeal to this in-house IWC tourbillon movement.
The exclusivity, technical ingenuity and impressive craftsmanship of the present model, offered in great condition, presents an opportunity to acquire an attractive and collectable contemporary timepiece from the instantly recognisable Portugieser family.
