The Élégante from F.P. Journe was introduced in 2014 and represents one of the most unconventional, unexpected and yet forward-thinking creations from François-Paul Journe.
Departing from traditional mechanics, the Élégante is powered by the in-house caliber 1210, an electro-mechanical quartz movement engineered to the standards of haute horlogerie. Its defining innovation is a motion-detection system: after approximately 30 minutes of inactivity, the hands stop to conserve energy, automatically resetting to the correct time when the watch is worn again. This playful, engaging and innovation idea allows for an exceptional battery life of up to 18 years.
The present example is housed in a lightweight grade 5 titanium tonneau case measuring 48mm, giving the watch a masculine presence with excellent ergonomics. The matte finished case contrasts nicely with the white lacquered dial, featuring unmistakable and signature F.P. Journe Arabic numerals, blued steel hands, subsidiary seconds at 6, and motion detector in an open window at 4:30.
The Élégante occupies a unique position within the work of F.P. Journe, a bold embrace of innovation that prioritizes practicality without sacrificing craftsmanship. Originally conceived in 40mm and with female collectors in mind, the 48mm titanium variant has since gained a broader following, appreciated for its ingenuity and everyday usability.
