A classic within the vintage Daytona family, the reference 6265 was produced from 1971 until approximately 1987, alongside its sibling, the reference 6263. While the two share many similarities, they can be easily distinguished by their bezels: the 6263 features a black acrylic insert, whereas the 6265 is fitted with a solid stainless steel bezel.

The 6265 is further defined by its screw-down pushers and crown, a notable evolution from earlier Daytona models such as the references 6239, 6241, all of which were equipped with pump pushers. This upgrade enhanced both durability and water resistance, reinforcing the model’s sporty character.

As one of the final manually wound Daytona references, the 6265 is powered by the Valjoux 727 movement. This calibre marked a technical improvement over its predecessors, increasing the beat rate to 21,600 vibrations per hour from the 18,000 vibrations per hour seen in earlier Valjoux movements like the 722-1.

The Daytona was imagined as a tool watch for drivers. Examples appearing on the market with a provenance associated to the racing world are incredible sought-after. This is the case of this lot. It belonged to a driver who raced many international competitions, such as the 24-Hour Le Mans and the 24-Hour of Daytona.
