Produced from 1958 to the 1970s, the reference 3417 by Patek Philippe was the manufacture’s first serially produced anti-magnetic wristwatch, reflecting the growing need for precision in environments exposed to strong magnetic fields. Powered by the calibre 12” AM-400, later upgraded to the 27 AM-400, the movement is protected by a soft iron inner case and fitted with a gold lever to ensure accuracy, while also offering water-resistant and dust-proof properties. Alongside its integrated bracelet counterpart, the reference 3418, it remains one of the only vintage Patek Philippe wristwatches produced exclusively in stainless steel prior to the Nautilus.
Beyond its technical innovation, the reference 3417 is admired for its restrained yet distinctive design, combining clean Bauhaus-inspired elements with the characteristic “Amagnetic” script on the dial. Dating from the mid-1960s, the present example features a Series 2 dial, identifiable by its smaller subsidiary seconds, indexes positioned closer to the dial’s edge, and the specific spacing of the “I” in the “PATEK PHILIPPE” signature.
Preserved in attractive condition and accompanied by its Extract from the Archives, this watch represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the brand’s earliest and most historically important tool wristwatches.
