The lineage of perpetual calendar chronographs at Patek Philippe is considered one of the most significant combinations of complications in horology. Since the debut of the reference 1518 in 1941, this series has become highly collectible, breaking numerous auction records and achieving record prices. The reference 5970, which was Thierry Stern’s inaugural project as President of Patek Philippe, honors its predecessors while featuring a more modern design.
The current reference 5971 represents a luxurious iteration of the 5970, adorned with 36 baguette-cut diamonds set into its 40 mm platinum case. It is powered by the esteemed calibre CH27-70 Q movement, created exclusively for Patek Philippe, which operates the complications displayed on the glossy black dial, including a tachymeter scale. Discontinued in 2011, this reference was the last to utilize the Lemania-based movement before transitioning to a fully in-house movement.
