Calibre: later 7 ¾’’’ circular calibre 2512-1 movement signed Cartier, damascened Côtes de Genève decoration, lever escapement, 17 jewels, annular balance, flat hairspring

Case: 18k yellow gold case, finely ribbed engine-turned decoration, black enamel chapter ring with polished gold Roman numerals in reserve surrounding central glazed dial aperture, flat beaded winding crown above 12 o’clock, hinged cap engraved Enero 1931, milled flint wheel integrated vertically into pediment, French eagle’s head assay and Edmond Jaeger punch mark

This gold lighter with an integrated watch exemplifies how the brand transformed a simple utilitarian object into an innovative and luxurious statement piece that offered both functionality and delight to its user.

By repute this lighter watch was originally owned by Queen Victoria Eugenie, wife of King Alonso XIII of Spain. Victoria Eugenie (Ana) Battenberg 1887-1969 was the daughter of Queen Victoria of Great Britain.

A similar lighter watch originally owned by King George II of Greece (1890-1947) was offered in a Danish auction, lot 1279 (auction date/location unknown).
