The Nautilus is a watch that needs no introduction and is nothing less than one of the most recognizable watches in the world. However, after the release of the original 3700 “Jumbo” in 1976, Patek Philippe began to experiment with different case sizes and dial designs in order to appeal to all audiences. By the 1980s, they had established a rule of three which would run until the end of the 20th century: the Jumbo, the Mid-Size 3800 and the small-size quartz.
The present 3800 comes from one of the later batches of production, with the reference being retired in 2006. It does not feature the iconic ribbed dial, and instead is fitted with a glossy black flat dial with Roman numerals, giving this watch a very distinct look that is sure to appeal to collectors who appreciate the iconic Genta design, but wish to own something more unusual and interesting.
