The origin of the Omega Constellation 368.1201 and its observatory motif is deeply connected to Omega's legacy of precision. While standard variations of this reference produced between the mid 1990s to early 2000s typically showcase ivory or white guilloche dials, there exists a specific numbered cloisonné enamel edition produced in 1995 that features an observatory depicted on the dial. The motif represents the Geneva Observatory, where Omega set numerous precision records in chronometry trials.

Like every Omega Constellation watch, a medallion is featured on the case back as a "seal of approval", signifying the movement inside is a certified chronometer. The eight stars surrounding the the observatory symbolizes Omega's eight greatest chronometric achievements and world records set between 1933 and 1952 at the Kew-Teddington and Geneva observatories. On these handcrafted enamel dials, the 11 stars are arranged to create a more balanced and visually complete night sky for the miniature artwork rather than strictly adhering to the historical record count used for the embossed case back medallions.
