The Reference 5177G-010 is part of a limited edition that combines various traditional decorative techniques, including Grand Feu cloisonné, flinqué and miniature painting to honor three iconic Italian locations: “Tuscany”, the renowned "Ponte Vecchio" in Florence, and “Cinque Terre” on the Ligurian coast, the present piece being offered.
The dial of the present wristwatch features a combination of translucent and opaque enamels to capture the tonal beauty of Cinque Terre. The artist defined the outlines by arranging thin gold wires on an engraved gold dial plate. These partitions, known as "cloisons" in French, were filled with small amounts of enamel powder in the desired colors. The dial was then fired in a furnace at around 1000 degrees Celsius, causing the powder to melt. Finally, it is hand-polished to achieve a perfectly smooth, glass-like surface. Producing each dial involves up to seven firings and utilizes seven to ten different enamel colors. A master enamellist at Patek Philippe would typically spend about seven days creating such unique works of art.
