The F.P. Journe Chronomètre Bleu was, at one point, the brand's entry level watch. The 39mm case is made from tantalum, a rare dark grey metal with blue overtones named after the “Torment of Tantalus” from Greek mythology. Rarely used in watchmaking yet highly valued for its superior corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and biocompatibility, it is a metal that is now very much a part of Journe's identity along with the brilliant blue dial, a combination which Journe often uses for his Only Watch releases. After the explosion of popularity in the brand, the Chronomètre Bleu has seen a meteoric rise and is one of Journe's most iconic models.
Though often overshadowed by the case and dial, the movement within is absolutely nothing to sneeze at. Driven by an in‑house 18K pink gold mechanical movement with a 56‑hour power reserve, the going train is completely hidden, giving the illusion that the balance wheel and barrels are completely unattached. The Chronomètre Bleu can truly be said to be a watch that is beautiful both inside and out.
