A re-interpretation of the original Santos design, the Carré à Coin Coupés combines a bold angular body with contrasting cylindrical T-bar style lugs. The lugs draw on the early vis armurier strap attachments found on some of Cartier’s earliest wristwatch models, including the Tonneau and Diabolo. However, rather than bars attached via screws to thin protruding lugs at the case’s edge, the lugs themselves are prominent cylinders centrally set and integrated with the leather strap which must itself be specially cut and formed; in this way the strap is seamlessly integrated into the design. In common with the original Santos design, the Carré à Coin Coupés has a polished bezel that retains the crystal and is attached to the upper body by screws secured from the underside. The securing screws are made from contrasting pink gold.
