This gold lipstick holder with integrated watch is a striking example of how Cartier elevated a simple utilitarian item into an innovative statement of luxury. Other creations, blending creativity and functionality, included watches integrated into money clips, photo frames, cigarette cases, powder compacts, lighters, pens, and even paper knives. The Pery Watch Co. was a sub-brand of Dreyfus Frères & Co., a watchmaker based in Péry, on the outskirts of Biel/Bienne in the Swiss Jura. They supplied small movements for a range of Cartier’s New York accessory watches during the 1940s. Movements signed by Dreyfus & Co. themselves are also known to have been used in Cartier accessories.
