Introduced in 1969, the Tudor Submariner “Snowflake” marked the second generation of the brand’s famed dive watch lineage. Its distinctive nickname derives from the model’s uniquely angular square hour markers and matching square-tipped hands, a design created to enhance underwater legibility and one that would become an enduring hallmark of Tudor. The inaugural reference, the no-date ref. 7016, laid the foundation for a series that has since become one of the most celebrated chapters in the manufacture’s history.

By the mid-1970s, Tudor expanded the range with the introduction of the no-date ref. 9401/0, as offered here, alongside the date-equipped ref. 9411/0. Available with either black or blue dials and matching bezel inserts, both references retained the signature Snowflake configuration that defines the series. Today, the Snowflake Submariner stands as the most sought-after vintage Tudor design, its influence so profound that it served as the inspiration for many of the brand’s modern heritage-inspired models. Once overshadowed by its Rolex counterpart, vintage Tudor Submariners were produced in far smaller numbers and appear only infrequently on the market, factors that have contributed significantly to their growing desirability and strong following among collectors.
