The present reference 252.029 stands as a special piece within the long standing history of A. Lange & Söhne as it celebrates its contribution to what is now German precision timekeeping. Made for astronomers and physicians first, the Jumping Seconds complication was first patented by Ferdinand Adolph Lange' s two sons, Richard and Emil Langes in 1877. The same complication is featured and forms the heart of the present example, and is emblematic of the brand’s long term contribution to German horology.

The dial features a prominent layout that echoes the pocket chronometer No. 93 made in 1807 by Dresden astronomer and watchmaker Johann Heinrich Seyffert, a foundational figure in German scientific watchmaking. Featuring a black galvanized sterling silver background, it superbly contrasts with the white and red accent allowing for great legibility and a callback to the Jumping Hand complication roots as a scientific measuring tool. For such an important and historic complication, A. Lange & Söhne allows it to take center stage.
