Enamel dials are a rare sight in A. Lange & Söhne, as they are historically reserved for grand complication or special anniversaries editions, with this present Langematik belonging to the latter. Conceived to commemorate the 10th anniversary since the brand’s revival after the reunification of Germany, it was strictly limited to 500 pieces. This special timepiece features a striking red Roman ‘XII’, paying homage to the brand’s historic ties to pocket watches. As self-winding mechanisms were deemed redundant for pocket watches, prompting the German watchmaker to produce only about 40 automatic pocket watches in its 100 years of history.
It was Günter Blümlein, the co-founder that revived the brand, that insisted on creating a modern automatic watch, resulting in the Langematik. It houses the calibre L.921.7 Sax-O-Mat, the first automatic watch movement made by A. Lange & Söhne that featured the zero-reset mechanism which instantly brings the running seconds hand back to zero when the crown is pulled through the decentralized micro-rotor. Perfectly bridging the brand’s pocket watch heritage and modern horological innovation, this present lot stands as an enticing piece for any discerning collectors.
