Originally conceived as F.P. Journe’s entry-level offering, the Chronomètre Bleu has since evolved into one of the manufacture’s most celebrated and sought-after timepieces. Its 39 mm case is crafted from tantalum, an uncommon metal in watchmaking distinguished by its dark grey appearance with subtle blue hues. Named after the mythical "Torment of Tantalus" from Greek legend, tantalum is prized for its exceptional resistance to corrosion and wear, as well as its biocompatibility. Over the years, the combination of a tantalum case and the model’s striking blue dial has become a hallmark of the brand, frequently appearing in François-Paul Journe’s highly desirable Only Watch charity pieces. As interest in independent watchmaking surged and the reputation of F.P. Journe continued to grow, the Chronomètre Bleu experienced a remarkable rise in popularity, securing its place as one of the brand’s most iconic creations.

While much attention is often given to its distinctive exterior, the movement within the Chronomètre Bleu is equally impressive. The watch is powered by an in-house mechanical calibre crafted from 18k pink gold and offers an impressive 56-hour power reserve.
