The Chronomètre à Résonance is widely regarded as François-Paul Journe’s signature achievement, a watch that perfectly reflects his technical ingenuity and profound appreciation for the history of watchmaking.

Believed to be discovered by the Dutch mathematician Christiaan Huygens, the resonance phenomenon can be observed when two pendulum clocks, suspended from the same beam synchronize their beats. Centuries later, it found its way onto the wrists of watch enthusiasts. The Chronomètre à Résonanc evolved through three major series, all classified under the broader Reference R family.

In 2000, when the first Chronomètre à Résonance wristwatch was completed, cased, and delivered, it became one of the cornerstone models of the F.P. Journe manufacture. A significant milestone came in late 2004 with the introduction of the RN reference, short for Résonance Nouveau, representing the second generation of the collection. This era brought several important developments, including the transition from brass movements to rose gold calibres, the discontinuation of yellow gold dials, and notable improvements in dial production quality and uniformity.

The RN series was powered by two successive movements. Calibre 1499.2, produced between 2005 and 2006, marked the debut of the rose gold movement architecture and was manufactured for only a short period. Production of the RN reference continued until approximately 2010, bringing this chapter in the Chronomètre à Résonance’s evolution to a close.
