The five-minute repeating complication was produced in smaller quantities than the minute repeater. A low tone chimes the number of hours, while a high tone chimes the number of five-minute intervals elapsed since the hour. Before the minute repeater became the most precise form of chiming complication, the five-minute repeater represented one of the highest achievements in repeater technology.
This watch incorporates a split-seconds chronograph, produced during a period when significant improvements were being made to chronograph mechanisms. The combination of these two highly complicated functions makes the watch particularly rare and highly prized among collectors.
