In recent decades collectors have increasingly embraced important rubies originating beyond Myanmar, recognising that exceptional gemstones are defined by their quality rather than geography alone. Weighing an impressive 16.51 carats, the present ruby displays a richly saturated hue and remarkable purity for a stone of this size.
Although leading gemmological laboratories have expressed differing opinions regarding its geographic origin, attributing the stone to either Vietnam or Afghanistan, all concur as to its exceptional quality. The SSEF has further recognised its significance through the issuance of an appendix, describing it as an "exceptional ruby" and concluding that "a natural ruby from Vietnam of this size and quality is very rare and exceptional." Whether viewed in the context of the renowned Luc Yen ruby deposits or the historic ruby sources of Afghanistan, this stone is a striking testament to the extraordinary rubies nature can produce.
