Description
Composed of articulated geometric panels set with lines of baguette and square-cut rubies, surrounded and accented by variously cut diamonds, length approximately 6⅞ inches, signed Yard; circa 1935.
Beginning his career at Marcus & Co., Raymond C. Yard earned the trust of America’s great collecting families not only through his eye, but through his character. Known for his generosity, warmth and unwavering integrity, Yard formed lasting relationships with patrons such as the Rockefellers and Flaglers, many of whom followed him when he opened his own house in 1922.
What Yard carried with him was more than technical mastery; it was a deeply held belief that jewelry should possess harmony in every detail. His relentless pursuit of balance and precision is vividly present in lot 65, where a ribbon of finely matched rubies glows with remarkable saturation and life. Even the hidden architecture of a jewel commanded his attention — clasps, galleries and reverse surfaces finished with the same care as the stones themselves. Though often associated with jewels of tasteful restraint, the present bracelet demonstrates Yard’s ability to create jewels that are at once disciplined in design and undeniably striking.
